Kevin Pursel Custom Obituary
You know how there’s always that one person in every circle of friends who is the life of the party? The person who would give the very shirt off their back if you needed it? The person you could count on to follow through on a commitment or go out of their way to do you a favor?
Kevin J. Pursel, 47, a proud resident of Green Bay’s Broadway district, was that person for many people. Sadly, for his circle of friends, family and chiropractic patients, Kevin made the decision to leave behind his emotional pain on Thursday, November 13, 2014. He will be missed by many who considered him a friend and confidant.
Born December 28, 1966, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Kevin provided the energy spark for a wide range of friend groups who enjoyed his ability to hold court, pontificating about whatever topic had his interest that day. His humor and infectious energy brought out the playful elements for anyone within earshot.
Broadway politics and redevelopment efforts were high on his list of interests, along with any topic that courted a double-standard argument. Never one to hide his opinions, Kevin would discuss a range of issues with unequaled passion. He took pleasure in pushing the envelope in an attempt to generate a reaction, punctuated by a caustic wit that often ended with a coy, “Did I say that with my outside voice?”
Kevin was the source of entertainment for a regular group at the Saturday morning farmers markets and would welcome guests at all hours to his chic Broadway loft.
His compassion for the revitalization of downtown Green Bay was the driving force behind his office’s planned relocation to the Broadway district, supported by his long-time office manager and close friend, Suzanne “Splash” (Jason) Schmechel.
A dedicated member of the chiropractic profession, Kevin took pride in his ability to view the healthcare industry through an objective lens. He was a 1992 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and owned Advanced Chiropractic in Green Bay.
Kevin also was a medical director of Chiropractic Services for Arise Health Plan, professional coder and peer reviewer. In addition to his office practice, he also owned Catalyst Chiropractic Consulting and was a published author in his profession.
Cooking was Kevin’s passion. He was very accomplished at the art and enjoyed sharing gourmet meals with friends. He also was a science fiction nerd, and yes, he spoke conversational Klingon.
Kevin had been active with Sing Out Kalamazoo, the Boy Scouts’ Explorer program and Junior Achievement. He was a campus guide at Palmer College and established an ongoing endowment fund for the Palmer campus guides. He was a graduate of Climax (Mich.) High School, and attended Ball State University and Western Michigan University. He had many close friends with whom he remained connected from these involvements.
Kevin is survived by one brother, Keith (Kathryn) Pursel, nephew Michael, and countless friends he considered his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Jackie Pursel, grandparents Leon and Katherine Young, George Pursel and his dear grandmother, Wilma Pursel.
There will be a celebration of Kevin’s life at Titletown Brewing Co.’s tap room, 320 N Broadway, Green Bay on Saturday, November 29, from 1-3 p.m. Kevin’s family and friends would like to thank Pfotenhauer Funeral Home for assisting with arrangements. Online condolences welcome at www.PfotenhauerFuneralHome.com
A memorial fund has been established for him at Titletown Brewing.
From your family and friends, Kevin, thank you for the smiles and good times. We hope you have found the peace, love and strength you shared with so many. “We love you more.”
